Rusagro announces the end of 2022 sowing campaign
27.06.22On 14 June, Rusagro completed sowing season in all regions. In 2022 total area of cultivated land increased by 2 thousand ha (+0.4%) to the level of 543 thousand ha due to introduction of fellow lands.
In 2022, crop structure was not subject to significant changes. The largest share of the land was cultivated with oil crops and grains – 43% (+1 pp season to season) and 37% (-1 pp season to season) respectively, while sugar beet land area share reached 17% (+1 pp season to season). For Rusagro’s crop structure in 2021-2022 refer to Table 1.
Area planted with grains decreased by 3 thousand ha season to season (-1%) and reached 202 thousand ha. This reduction can be explained by the death of winter wheat in the previous season and adhering the crop rotation plan. Area planted with oil crops rose by 6 thousand ha season to season (+3%) and reached 233 thousand ha due to larger area under soy. As a result of an increase of optimal planting distance from sugar plants, area planted with sugar beet augmented by 3 thousand ha (+4%) and reached 93 thousand ha.
Higher land area cultivated with other crops is due to experiments with chickpeas, flax, oats, triticale and lentils. Drop in area under farrow by 4 thousand ha (-30%) is a result of converting agriculture land previously not suitable for planting into arable land. For Rusagro’s cultivated area by key crops in 2021-2022 refer to Table 2.
